Note: I only get Pad See Ew at Thai places.... The Pad See Ew is excellent. The service is always very friendly as well. I've never really had a bad experience here. They don't have a parking lot, but it's Iowa City so you can park at any of the garages, or typically you can find on-street parking and just take a quick walk. It's pretty small inside, but I've always found seating. I'm always surprised it isn't busier - great food imo.

Alright this is whats up... i hate writing this because i want it to be my secret. This place is my favorite place in Iowa City. Okay so the decor is a little lacking but don't be fooled. the food is amazing...

When people (grad students, writers, urbanites, what have you) move to Iowa City, they go to Thai Flavors, pronounce it to be only okay, then are told by someone only marginally more in the know to go to Thai Spice because it is supposedly better. But no one gives anything but the vaguest of reasonings for this. I think people think Thai Spice is better because it is slightly farther away from downtown, has slightly nicer decor, and employs a chef who takes a more liberal stance with the hot chiles. Now, I brag about my own high tolerance for spice just as much if not more than the next newly converted spice-appreciator, but even I know that adding a bunch of crudely diced chiles to a pot of curry immediately before serving doesn't equal culinary superiority. Just the same, I did fall into this trap for awhile, assuming that I was better off going to Thai Spice and paying more, while feeling uncomfortably over-spiced post-meal. Because of this I didn't eat from Thai Flavors for about 2 years. One night--Valentines day of 2012, actually--my fiance and I were too tired to move and we decided to get Thai Flavors delivery since it's close to our house and I don't know if Thai Spice delivers. I was shocked to discover Thai Flavors to be a wildly satisfying impromptu meal, much more so than recent take out from Thai Spice. Why had I let myself be deterred by barely knowledgeable grad students for all this time when for two years I had been living closer to the cheaper and honestly better-tasting alternative? A mistake to be cautiously avoided in the future, I assure you. Anyway, not to get too caught up in a whole "Why did I listen to oblivious people?" rant but don't let anyone tell you that Thai Flavors isn't worthy of your patronage. I like the green and red curries (spicy, to be sure, but in such a way that makes me believe that the chiles were simmered according to a particular standard of taste and flavor rather than just added ad-hoc at the customer's specification) and I particularly like the Drunken Noodles with beef. Basic, easy, filling, well-done. It's not like, amazing, but there are few foods in this world that can be delivered at will that are truly amazing, you know?

Curry Curry Curry! Love their curries! (Drunken Noodles are awesome too!) They ask how spicy you want it, but their 5 is still a little mild, so if you really want some spice, make sure to ask for a HOT 5, not mild. Oh also, they seem to put carrots in EVERYTHING even if it's not included in the menu description, so if you like I hate carrots, be sure to ask them to not include them, otherwise they will. Service seems a little overworked/stretched as it can usually take awhile for them to get back to you, so if you really need something, you're gonna have to flag somebody down if you don't want to keep waiting. And the phone is constantly ringing off the hook with people calling in take-out orders. But don't let that dissuade you, this place is a hidden little gem! The beers, yeah, don't go here for beer, what they have on hand never comes to the table cold, but does always manage to come skunky. As for the appetizers, they are middling at best, don't waste your time there, the entrees are really the star of the show here, During the lunch service you get a good sized portion of entree for the price, and the dinner service you get a really good portion size. Again in overview: Entrees Awesome, focus on that and you'll be fine!

From the sidewalk, it looks like a little-known hangout, perhaps deserving of repeat biz by in -the-know locals. Of course I have to check it out! Upon sitting down, the bench seating gave me a back ache and the Thai music drone, although at first innocuous, began to sound like nails on a chalkboard. At this point I'm wanting to chow and bail ASAP. Drinks: Ice water was delivered with the average service (good on balance, but I ran out of Frothy Brew and had to flag the waitress) The beer was barely chilled which came out of an old Dr. Pepper cooler....it would have likely gone down better with a couple ice cubes (never thought I'd say that!) The Chang beer was skunky, yet the Blue moon was good as expected. Food: Ordered Chicken Satay for an app and Drunken Noodles with Chicken, 4.5 out of 5 spice. Satay was dry and overcooked, maybe over-zealous on the oyster sauce, however Peanut sauce satisfied (albeit tough to screw up). They nailed the spice level on the Drunken noodles which were very good overall, yet some of the chicken was stuck together (and didn't taste quite right) and the dish was maybe a touch over-sauced, although tasty. Veggies were delicious. Overall 4/5 on the entree. Bottom line: This place could do some serious business if the management made a few tweaks with the ambiance centered around their wheelhouse customers (twenty something professionals, walk-by college students, and locals), and focused on some overlooked details.

The curry is absolutely fabulous. Pot stickers, anything fried rice...pretty much everything I've eaten here has been fantastic. My favorite place to eat in Iowa City hands down. Nothing fancy atmosphere-wise but who really cares when the food is as good as this!

I love Thai food now, I am here for more than 2 years and I just know here we have good Thai restaurant. I like Thai curry and fried rice.

I love the fact they deliver. It does take over an hour for delivery, but since I never have to leave my home and save alot of money on beer/wine, it is well worth the wait! The vegetable egg roll is typical, nothing special; the tofu delight is typical, nothing special; crab rangoon is americanized just like everywhere else; the pot stickers (recommended) are good, the chicken satay (recommended) is excellent. the hawkeye roll is fresh not fried, excellent (recommended) Appetizers range between $5/$6 while almost every asian restaurant has the standard americanized appetizer garbage, there are a few recommended items here that is authentic & a tasty/healthier choice. I've had all of their curry, they are all excellent, but I love the panang, i would recommend this over everything else. the drunken fried rice & drunken fried noodle are both excllent; however, i would recommend the druken fried noodle over rice. one of my favorite dish here is the silver noodle, stir-fried silver noodle with eggs, onion, tomato, mushrooms, and chicken/beef This place is very authentic, i would recommend this to anyone visiting Iowa City. Don't forget they deliver :-) rainy and snowing days aren't so bad after all!

I only order the curry dishes when I go here. They're so delicious and they give you enough, I find, to take home for lunch the next day! I once ordered something else off the money (I can't recall anymore). It was okay, but I love their curry dishes so much I just shrugged and decided to stick with what I love. All the curry dishes are good but my personal favorites are the red and green curries. Enjoy!

Took over an hr for delivery. Didn't even give any utensils or napkins. Skip take out from this place.

Why haven't we eaten here before? The peanut sauce for the hawkeye rolls is great. We have loved all the curries and the vegetarian friendliness.

We got the green curry & phad kee maw. The curry was watered down and not very "Flavored". the phad kee maw did not have the traditional noodles and was rather substituted for some other type of noodle. Service was good though. Not representative of traditional Thai food.

This place is the best asian food in town. The one thing I dislike is that it seems like they really don't want you to order delivery. Anytime you call and ask how long delivery is, they say something like two hours which is super odd given the times I've called--how could it be two hours on a tuesday evening at 4pm? I dunno--weird. But the one time I realized they really just scare you off from ordering delivery was this one time when I ordered delivery for a girl's night and made sure to call in advance. They said delivery would take two hours and I was fine with that. I placed the order and notified the girls to be at my place 30 mins before the estimated delivery time. Well...the food showed up only an hour later, one hour earlier than the estimated time. The food was luke warm by the time my girlfriends even arrived and not to mention, one of my friends who happened to arrive earlier by chance just to hang out had to put the whole order on her credit card since we couldn't get the cash from each person like we intended, had the food arrived at the time we thought. As for the food, it is relatively consistent, some days its better than others, but still pretty could nevertheless. Oh, and when I called the restaurant to let them know what a mix up their very-off delivery time caused (politely and constructively--not attacking at all) the gal that was on the phone was super rude and I didn't get one apology...I still go there because of the food though, but I just don't do take out (It didn't seem like they were planning on fixing their system any time soon!).

The food is good and affordable, the drinks are great (hooray for delicious Thai iced tea). The wait staff was attentive and helpful, even when people in our group weren't sure what they wanted.

A very decent place to eat. The food is served very quickly and the prices are very reasonable. I really enjoy the drunken noodles and any of the curry dishes that they make.

So, this isn't THE best Thai I've ever had but it is the best Thai in the Iowa City area and it is good. The Pad Thai is as it should be and the Green Curry is excellent. Give it a try.

Phenomenal food. Excellent Pad Thai! The owners provide GREAT service. I like that this restaurant is actively involved in sponsoring and donating to a lot of University Events. That is a plus in my book.

Thai Flavors is one of our favorites in Iowa City. The food is quite good and the service is adequate. During the lunch hour, they have a vegetarian lunch buffet - it's a bit hit or miss, depending on how busy they've been. But their dinners are excellent. It's quite vegetarian friendly - but is also a place you can take carnivores. We recommend the Drunken noodles and the curries. If you're in downtown Iowa City, you can't go wrong stopping by Thai Flavors.

I love this place. The people are so friendly here and the panang curry with gluten makes my mouth water just to type it. I recently moved away from I.C. and this is the restaurant I miss the most.

I wish I can give them more than 3 stars, the food is pretty good but the service is not, the description of the meals in the menu is not quit right, you should ask the servant what's in your meal, but over all it's nice place to eat in, I'll try it again for sure

very fresh hawkeye rolls (bumps up my review a star). small portions. i asked for spicy and there was no kick to the dish. nothing was worth remembering. the beef in my tom yum soup was dry and ragged. price wasn't too bad, but i was expecting better quality. three stars for iowa city, but less, on the whole.

I appreciate the owners' support for social justice causes, but the food is frankly terrible--bland, mushy, sweet, and Iowan-ized. Thai Spice is a better, though still Americanized, option.

While the inside is quite cramped, I'm always impressed by the food here. Their stir-fried noodle dishes are always great. For a while, the drunken fried noodle was the only way I could get my boyfriend to eat carrots.Their Tom Yum soup is okay, I've had better. However, their appetizers are fantastic, I love their pot stickers, chicken saatay and Kanoom Jeeb.

More than delivers on the standard Thai restaurant dishes. Ate in the restaurant and enjoyed it, and have had delivery that was just as good. Nice to be able to specify spiciness on a scale of one to five stars for each dish because Midwesterners don't seem to like the spice so much! All in all, nothing mind blowing, but more than reliable for your standard Thai take-away needs.

Have eaten here multiple times. Often pick up lunch to go as they are quick, affordable, and delish- Go for the Ginger or the Angry Noodles. Pad Thai is good, ask for extra spicy (1-5 scale, I got it at 4 and it was pretty hot and I have a tolerance for spicy food). If you go for dinner, you MUST try the honey duck! I promise you will not be disappointed and you will have a great lunch the following day. Also try the hawkeye roll appetizer with the peanut sauce. Overall great establishment in Iowa City. Also U of Iowa friendly.

Best crab-rangoons I've ever had. Very tasty food. Portion sizes are a bit too large. You can only eat so much of a giant bowl of noodles. Has a diner-style atmosphere with a cash register on the front counter. Fair prices.

I really love this place. The atmosphere is casual/comfortable without being gross, they've got a really wide variety of food, and as a vegetarian, I really appreciate the fact that they've got TWO vegetarian meat-substitution options for every entree (tofu and wheat gluten). I eat the pad thai with wheat gluten, and it is well-made and yummy. The Tom Kha is also very good. They've got a somewhat small beer and wine selection, but everything else makes up for that.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
